Happy Monday!
I started Swoon Lagoon years & years & years ago, when I was college kid just teetering on the fine wire of hormones and coffee. On my Wordpress, my audience was virtually nonexistent but that was fine. I had nothing by time and an insatiable thirst to hone my ear, searching for the perfect tracks that matched the complexities of my curiosity and emotional interior. On and off campus I was known as the girl with “good taste” with a few affectionate nicknames tagged for my fixation (JB for jukebox was my absolute favorite) Plus, the snacks in the university library were top tier.
If you love music as much as I do then you know that there is a difference between hearing and listening, if depth is your modus operandi. The direction of SL is to be determined, but if I am to be vulnerable on Substack, it seems impossible without bringing a bit of the musical ardor that 20ish me relished in. Peace Placeholder is more of a fluid playlist impulsively thrown together (think Jackson Polluck, my birthday twin) because the tracks felt oh so good. Yes, playlists are serious business in this house but this time I didn’t think about it too hard. I felt relaxed. Mood wise, think sage! Coffee table books featuring Afro Futurism! Belly laughs over takeout while watching Insecure! I wanted equal parts sensual and idiosyncratic (are they honestly one and the same???) I look forward to sharing more playlists—and more importantly—more swooning with all of you. Happy listening—and feel free to drop complimentary tracks in the comments. My ears will thank you.
